Summary: Dr. Kendra King, Director of Student Services and Achievement, will invited the Board and all those present to join her in recognizing Principals Pat Cuomo and Erin Kershner and staff from Greenbrier and Venable Elementary Schools for receiving the Distinguished Achievement Award.

On August 8, 2017, Governor Terry McAuliffe and the state Board of Education announced that 386 schools and 17 school divisions across the Commonwealth earned 2017 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) awards for advanced learning and achievement. The VIP incentive program recognizes schools and divisions that exceed state and federal accountability standards and achieve excellence goals established by the governor and the board.

The Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award was earned by 15 divisions and 231 schools that met all state and federal benchmarks and made progress toward the goals of the governor and the board. A school receive the Distinguished Achievement Award for being Fully Accredited and for making a significant progress toward educational goals established by the Board of Education and the governor. In addition, the school must earn 75 VIP points (including bonus points) in each content area.

Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends the Board join with her and CCS staff in recognizing Principals Pat Cuomo and Erin Kershner and staff from Greenbrier and Venable Elementary Schools for this recognition.
